Eco Tips

Some small measures can really add up.  Try some of these little steps!

Bring the green inside

Clean the air in your house with houseplants!  Did you know that houseplants can rid the air in your home of organic chemicals, pollutants, toxins and carbon dioxide?  Common culprits are paint, synthetic rugs and fabrics, and cleaning supplies.

Banish the dryer dust bunnies

Not only is a full lint filter a fire hazard, it will cause your dryer to use 30 percent more energy.

Slow down and enjoy the drive

Studies indicate that keeping your speed at 65 mph instead of 55 mph increases fuel consumption by 15 percent.  So slowing down is not only good for the environment it is good for your pocketbook!

Cold wash your clothes

The process of heating the water in your washing machine use 90% of the machine’s power consumption.  So you can see washing your clothes in cold water will reduce energy usage and save you money.

Wage war on junk mail

More than 100 million trees are destroyed each year to produce junk mail; that’s the equivalent of clear-cutting the entire Rocky Mountain National Park every four months.  Order our Stop Junk Mail kit for an easy to follow plan to eliminate junk mail and help save trees.  Your postal carrier will thank you too!

Print more on less

When printing your word documents you’ll save a lot of paper if you:  reduce your margins to .75 or less, print on both sides of the paper and use print preview to check your documents before printing.

Keep your shoes running

Send your old but still-wearable athletic shoes to www.oneworldrunning.com. They'll distribute them to athletes in need in Africa, Latin America and Haiti.  You can also send them to www.nikereuseashoe.com and they'll turn them into playground and athletic flooring.

Save Money with Filters

Change the filter on your car regularly.  Studies show that doing so can save the equivalent of 28 cents per gallon.
